Gunman on the loose after Mutale shootings

A man was shot and injured, while another was found dead in two incidents in Mutale on Saturday night; the shooter is still at large.

LIMPOPO – Police in Mutale are investigating a murder and an attempted murder following a shooting incident in Dzimauli, Tshibvumo, on Saturday night (January 24).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says a 42-year-old man and his girlfriend were returning home shortly after 22:00 when they heard gunshots. They encountered a man wearing dark clothing, who threatened to kill the man.

“The male victim surrendered while his girlfriend managed to flee. The attacker then shot the man in the lower body, and he was taken to hospital for treatment,” says Ledwaba.

Discovery of another victim

Early the following morning, police were called to another scene after a body was found on the street.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 21-year-old male with gunshot wounds to his upper body. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

Police seek public assistance

The perpetrator remains at large and has not been identified.

Police are appealing to the public for information. Anyone with details regarding the incident is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Mbengeni Mulalo, on 063 681 4465, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be provided anonymously via the MySAPS App.

Investigations are ongoing.
