3 Arrested for attempted murder of businessman in Lebowakgomo

Three suspects were arrested in Lebowakgomo after a brazen daylight robbery where a shot was fired at a scrap metal buyer.

LIMPOPO – Three male suspects have been arrested following the robbery of a scrap metal businessman in Lebowakgomo, Zone Q, today (January 27).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that during the robbery, a shot was fired at the victim but missed.

The victim managed to disarm one of the suspects and strike him on the head, causing minor injuries. The suspects fled with cash into nearby bushes, leaving the firearm behind.

Police operational teams, including the Provincial Tracking Team and Investigations Unit, in collaboration with Tshimollo Security and Investigation, were swiftly mobilised.

Intelligence-led operations traced the suspects after they boarded a taxi to Zone F, where all three suspects, aged 49, were arrested.

Police recovered balaclavas, gloves, housebreaking tools, the stolen cash, and a 9mm firearm with a filed-off serial number, along with ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (January 29) on charges including robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, and possession of a prohibited firearm.
