Community rallies to support Mahwelereng family after fire
After their home burned down just before Christmas, the Teffo family has begun to recover thanks to donations from the Mokpane community.
MOKOPANE – For the Teffo family from Mahwelereng, 2025 ended on a tragic note when their home was destroyed by a fire during the festive season.
Four adults and three children, who were living on the property, were left with nothing just days before Christmas as the flames engulfed their belongings.
Motlatso Selomo of the National Congress of African Women (NCAW) confirmed that no casualties were reported.
“The cause of the fire is still unknown and the police are investigating the matter. In the meantime, we could not stand by and watch as the family struggled to cope with their loss,” said Selomo.
She explained that members of the organisation and community volunteers collected essential items and handed over donations to the grateful family recently. Selomo added that the family is still in need of support and encouraged anyone willing to assist to come forward. She can be contacted on 072 530 0629.
