Polokwane Muni mobilises crews to repair rain-damaged roads
Polokwane Municipality is conducting phased road repairs and grass cutting after recent heavy rainfall caused widespread potholes and overgrowth.
POLOKWANE – Recent heavy rainfall in Polokwane has created two main problems for city services. The rain has caused potholes on the roads and has also made the grass in public areas grow faster than usual.
Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala shared that teams are currently implementing a response plan to address the situation effectively.
He moved to assure residents that deterioration of road surfaces and grass overgrowth are direct consequences of the weather, not a lapse in regular maintenance.
“The conditions we are seeing are weather-related and not due to neglect,” Selala stated. “Our Roads and Stormwater teams, together with the Environment Unit, have been mobilised and are addressing affected areas in a phased and systematic manner.”

According to the municipality, repair work and grass-cutting operations are already active and will be rolled out across all wards. Officials acknowledge that the scale of the work means some communities may experience delays before crews can attend to their specific area.
“Some areas may take slightly longer to reach, but every affected community is on our schedule,” Selala said, citing the need to work methodically and as weather conditions allow.
The municipality has appealed for public patience, emphasising that the coordinated effort is aimed at restoring road safety, cleanliness, and general accessibility throughout Polokwane.
