MH welcomes matrics at annual commencement event

Mitchell House has hosted its annual commencement ceremony to mark the start of the matric year for its Gr12 learners and their families.

POLOKWANE – Mitchell House recently hosted its annual commencement ceremony for Gr 12 learners, held before the start of the school year to mark their entry into the matric year. The event was attended by learners and their parents, and officially recognised this milestone.

The ceremony was held in the school theatre last Tuesday and was led by teacher Tlou Mashitisho.

A number of teachers addressed the learners, sharing guidance and encouragement for the year ahead. Topics included adherence to the school’s code of conduct, setting a positive example for younger learners, maintaining physical wellbeing, planning for the final academic year, and general advice on navigating matric successfully.

Lefa Maake, Joy Mokonyane and Mphadzha Andisa print their hands on the papers.

Former Mitchell House learner and 2024 head girl, Nikiwe Nkonyani, addressed the learners as a guest speaker.

Nkonyani, who was also recognised as the school’s top learner during her time at Mitchell House, shared her experiences and offered motivation to the matric class.

Following the formal programme, learners and their parents moved to the school’s nutrition centre for an interactive session.

Learners were invited to write down personal commitments and pledges for the year, symbolising their dedication to academic excellence.

Gr 12 learners Maite Chaamano, Mowe Shogole and RJ Shingange are part of the commencement ceremony.

The activity concluded with learners placing colourful handprints on display, with parents seated alongside them.

Head of the college, Claude Goeminne, also addressed the gathering and wished the Gr 12 learners success as they prepare for the year.

My name is Anne Mametja. I am a mom of four and an identical twin. With a passion for media, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Television Production in 2012 and due to my love for children, I also hold a certificate in Nursing Auxiliary. As media is my first love, I started working at the Polokwane Review as a journalist in 2017 and it has been amazing thus far. I love journalism because I can be a voice to the community through my work. Journalism allows me to meet different people at the events I attend. Although there are certain beats that journalists stick to, being an all-rounder means I write community, schools, sports, hard, lifestyle and entertainment news. It also allows me to be versatile in the newsroom and assist where I can. ‘Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.’
