Back-to-school haircut drive gives Seshego learners fresh start
Learners received free haircuts at a back-to-school initiative in Seshego, helping them return to school looking neat and confident.

POLOKWANE – More than 40 learners started the new school year with fresh, clean haircuts thanks to a back-to-school free haircut initiative.
The temporary salon was set up at the EFF Seshego branch office, where 27-year-old Matthews Molongwana, a self-taught barber, offered his services to learners at no cost.
Molongwana discovered his passion for barbering while in Gr 6, cutting friends’ hair during his free time.

“I had no idea those small moments would shape my future. I started taking it seriously as it helped me gain experience,” he said.
He explained that his involvement in the initiative was his way of helping learners return to school looking neat and confident, recognising that many families come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
“It was important for me to play my part in easing the burden sometimes faced by parents,” he added.
The team faced challenges, including a shortage of equipment, but the situation improved when the EFF donated additional tools, allowing the initiative to continue smoothly.
Molongwana believes the project should become an annual event, saying that it reduces stress for parents struggling with salon costs. He also encouraged the community to support his business in Zone 1.
