More scholar transport vehicles impounded in Polokwane

Authorities have again impounded scholar transport vehicles in Polokwane for safety and permit violations, as enforcement operations continue.

POLOKWANE – Several scholar transport vehicles were impounded at the Polokwane Station today (February 3) after being found to be operating without the required permits and failing to comply with safety regulations.

According to Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Matome Moremi Tauetsala, the operation took place in the Moletjie-Magodu area, where officials stopped light delivery vehicles, seven-seaters and minibuses that were being used to transport learners.

Tauetsala said the vehicles were impounded for not adhering to safety regulations governing scholar transport and for operating without the necessary authorisation. He emphasised that, while the department acknowledges the daily pressures faced by transport operators and parents, the safety of children remains the top priority.

He said the enforcement action serves as a reminder that every child is entitled to safe and lawful transport to and from school, and that unauthorised scholar transport poses serious risks.

Tauetsala also urged parents and guardians to work with authorities to ensure that learners are transported safely and securely by compliant operators.
