Seshego man to appear in court for rape

A 32-year-old man faces a rape charge in Seshego Magistrate's Court following a late-night incident where two women were assaulted.

POLOKWANE – A 32-year-old Malawian national is scheduled to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today, facing a charge of rape.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the arrest stems from an incident on Friday (February 6).

“A 30-year-old woman from Apel in the Sekhukhune District had accompanied a friend on Thursday evening to visit the friend’s boyfriend at his residence. In the early hours of the following morning, around 03:00, a violent altercation erupted between the couple,” said Mashaba.

The suspect assaulted his girlfriend and forced her out of the room before locking the door. He then turned on the visiting friend, threatening and strangling her before raping her.

Following the attack, the victim was also chased from the premises.

Both women went directly to the Seshego Police Station to report the crime. A case of rape was opened, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect.

The investigation has been taken over by the specialised Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
