Water shortages hit Polokwane as Krugerburg reservoir levels drop

Polokwane Municipality says reduced water supply in areas like Bendor and Flora Park are due to critically low levels at the Krugerburg reservoirs.

POLOKWANE – The Municipality has warned of water shortages affecting several areas due to critically low levels at the Krugerburg reservoirs.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said suburbs including Bendor, Flora Park, Fauna Park, Moergoed, Welgelegen and surrounding industrial areas are experiencing reduced water availability.

Selala explained that water demand is currently exceeding supply, while inflow from the bulk supplier, Lepelle Northern Water, has significantly declined.

“The City is engaging the bulk supplier to assess the situation and secure urgent assistance,” Selala said.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been urged to use water sparingly. The municipality has called on consumers to limit non-essential use such as watering gardens, washing cars and filling swimming pools.

Residents are also encouraged to take shorter showers, avoid running taps unnecessarily and reuse greywater where possible.

Selala said the municipality is appealing for cooperation and responsible water use while efforts are underway to stabilise supply. Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.

Residents can contact the Water and Sanitation Call Centre on 015 290 2376 or send a WhatsApp message to 068 290 8736 for assistance.
