Special school in Thohoyandou receives agri boost
MEC Nakedi Kekana strengthens agricultural education at Fulufhelo Special School with new tunnel infrastructure and garden support.
LIMPOPO – The principal of Fulufhelo Special School, William Raamano, has expressed gratitude for the support received from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, urging them to continue assisting learners with intellectual disabilities.
This follows visits by MEC Nakedi Kekana, who identified the school as a beneficiary during the 2025 Back-to-School Crusade Campaign.
During her initial visit, the school requested that agricultural projects be incorporated into its curriculum to promote food security and equip learners with practical skills.
Kekana indicated that the department was ready to support agricultural initiatives for learners with intellectual disabilities.
On her second visit, on February 11, she officially handed over shaded net tunnel infrastructure materials requested by the school.
“We were very pleased with the full delivery of all the construction materials under the direction of the MEC,” said Raamano.
He explained that the school’s welding class, under the guidance of Mr Malusele and Ms Managa, constructed the green shaded tunnel over a period of six to seven months.
“We are happy that the MEC has now come to officially hand it over.”
Kekana said the department continues to make progress on infrastructure projects aimed at improving learning and living conditions for students.
Support to the school’s vegetable garden included greenhouse construction materials, production inputs, fruit trees and irrigation equipment.
Although the school requested greenhouse materials, the structure itself was built by Fulufhelo learners.
The department also hosted a workshop for agricultural educators on greenhouse construction.
In addition, Kekana visited Madzivhandila College of Agriculture, where the department approved the construction and maintenance of a student accommodation block.
The project includes refurbishment of floor tiling, plumbing and sanitation systems, installation of equipment and painting, which is still underway.
Kekana commended the contractor for ensuring steady progress on the project.
