WATCH: Limpopo scholar transport operators march over permits

Limpopo scholar transport operators march over permit deadlines, vehicle impoundments and seven-seater rules after shutdown threat.

POLOKWANE  – Scholar transport operators, including Limpopo scholar transport alliance and Moletjie scholar transport cooperative, are on Bodenstein street marching to the Department of Transport and community safety offices.

This comes after a viral post on social media by the Limpopo scholar transport alliance, which noted there will be a national shutdown today.

This follows a notice by the department that the scholar operators were given 60 days from February 16 to apply for such permits.

However, they have raised issues that their cars were being impounded even after meeting roadworthy conditions, and the seven-seaters were not being allowed to transport school learners.

In a statement released by the department yesterday, it noted that through its engagements with formations like Seshego Polokwane scholar transport Capricorn region and other formations, they have managed to resolve and clarify the issue of seven-seaters.
