Former Noordskool, Tommie star sprints to victory

Tuks sprinter Mukhethwa Tshifura wins the 60m race at SuperSport Schools 2026, claiming gold in a standout performance in Pretoria.

POLOKWANE – Mukhethwa Tshifura, a former learner of Laerskool Pietersburg Noord (Noordskool) and HTS Tom Naudé, sprinted to victory at the SuperSport Schools Athletics 2026 event, winning the men’s 60m race in 06:56 seconds to claim the Simbine Curro Classic Shootout title.

Now a student at University of Pretoria (Tuks), Tshifura delivered a standout performance at the prestigious meeting held at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria on February 13-14.

The event brought together top school athletes from across South Africa and Namibia for two days of elite competition.

The expanded programme featured track and field events, relays and invitational races.

Proceedings began with the Curro Podium Primary Schools competition, followed by the Curro Podium Grand Finale Relays and the Akani Simbine Classic Shootout.

“I’m over the moon to have won the 60m title.

“The support from my family, team and coaches has been incredible.

“I’m proud to represent Tuks and my former schools, Noordskool and HTS Tom Naudé, where I also represented them well at athletics competitions.

“This win is for them and for my family, of course. I can’t wait to take part in more races to come,” Tshifura said.

Anne Mametja

My name is Anne Mametja. I am a mom of four and an identical twin. With a passion for media, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Television Production in 2012 and due to my love for children, I also hold a certificate in Nursing Auxiliary. As media is my first love, I started working at the Polokwane Review as a journalist in 2017 and it has been amazing thus far. I love journalism because I can be a voice to the community through my work. Journalism allows me to meet different people at the events I attend. Although there are certain beats that journalists stick to, being an all-rounder means I write community, schools, sports, hard, lifestyle and entertainment news. It also allows me to be versatile in the newsroom and assist where I can. ‘Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.’
