Kraaines learners in Polokwane give back to animals

Kraaines Preschool learners in Polokwane donated animal food to the SPCA and learned valuable lessons about caring for animals.

POLOKWANE – Kraaines Preschool learners donated a variety of animal food to the SPCA on Friday, showing their love and care for animals in need.

The learners were asked to bring anything they thought the SPCA would need, and their efforts paid off with a generous collection of food.

Representatives from the SPCA, Kamogelo Mashiane (donkey mascot) and Cassius Mochaki (cat mascot), put on a fun and an engaging puppet show, teaching learners about animal welfare and the importance of caring for animals.

SPCA representative, Cassius Mochaki (cat mascot) asks the learners a few questions about animals.

Mashiane shared some insights on caring for different animals, including dogs, cats, horses, donkeys and others: “If you take good care of your animal, it will take good care of you in return, for the rest of its life”.

The SPCA representatives also did a presentation on animal care, using big posters with pictures to demonstrate key points.

The learners were fascinated by the various types of animals. They also sang ‘if you’re happy and you know it’ song with the learners after the presentations.

As a token of appreciation, the SPCA gifted learners with educational colouring and writing books to take home.

Teacher Lizzy Seroka hands out the educational books to the learners.

Kraaines Preschool team presented the SPCA with A3 artwork posters featuring a ‘thank you’ message from the staff and learners.

Principal Elize Fourie said the event was a great success, with learners learning valuable lessons about animal care and compassion.

“Thank you to our parents and learners for your support and donations, because they made the event a huge success.”

On the same day, Kraaines Preschool celebrated Valentine’s Day under the theme ‘Jesus Loves Me’, with learners dressed in red and white, and also creating special artwork in their classes.

“We would also like to thank the SPCA for the visit, and for educating our kids about different types of animals and how to care for them.”

My name is Anne Mametja. I am a mom of four and an identical twin. With a passion for media, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Television Production in 2012 and due to my love for children, I also hold a certificate in Nursing Auxiliary. As media is my first love, I started working at the Polokwane Review as a journalist in 2017 and it has been amazing thus far. I love journalism because I can be a voice to the community through my work. Journalism allows me to meet different people at the events I attend. Although there are certain beats that journalists stick to, being an all-rounder means I write community, schools, sports, hard, lifestyle and entertainment news. It also allows me to be versatile in the newsroom and assist where I can. ‘Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.’
