Venda FC host Baroka in crucial Championship clash

Venda FC face Baroka FC at Thohoyandou Stadium in a vital Motsepe Foundation Championship match, with promotion and relegation hopes on the line.

LIMPOPO – Thohoyandou Stadium will be the centre of attention on Saturday afternoon when Venda Football Club (VFC) host Baroka FC in a crucial Motsepe Foundation Championship clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:30.

VFC, currently enjoying a strong run of form, need maximum points to keep their hopes of securing the league title and a place in the promotional play-offs alive. A defeat could seriously dent their ambitions.

Baroka FC are, however, equally hungry for points as they fight to avoid relegation. The side is among three teams hovering dangerously close to the drop zone and facing the prospect of demotion to the Safa Motsepe Promotional League. They will be aiming to collect maximum points to boost their survival chances.

VFC come into the fixture wounded after dropping three points last week, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Kruger United at Kanyamazane Stadium. The Thohoyandou outfit will be eager to bounce back in front of their home supporters.

Black Leopards, popularly known as Lidoda Duvha, are meanwhile preparing for a tough encounter against Midlands Wanderers on Saturday.

According to Leopards co-coach Duncan Lechesa, his side has unfinished business with Wanderers following their 2-1 defeat in the first-round league match at Thohoyandou Stadium. “We will go all out to exact revenge,” Lechesa said, adding that their battle makes the fixture even more demanding.

Lidoda Duvha are currently languishing at the bottom of the log with just 12 points from 18 matches and will need a strong performance to revive their campaign.
