Mokopane Business Chamber distances itself from political ploy

The Mokopane Business Chamber says its name and logo were misused in a politically motivated ploy, urging residents to verify information on social media.

MOKOPANE – The Mokopane Business Chamber has distanced itself from what it describes as a misleading and politically motivated ploy in which its name, logo and organisational details were misused.

“It has been brought to our attention that the name, logo and details of the Mokopane Business Chamber have been used in what appears to be a misleading and politically motivated ploy,” said chairperson Willy Modisha, an executive committee member responsible for the municipal portfolio.

“We categorically distance ourselves from any such actions and wish to clarify our position to the business community and the public at large.”

Modisha said the chamber is strictly apolitical and has never endorsed, affiliated with, supported or funded any political party or structure.

“Our mandate is to promote economic development, support local businesses and advocate for a thriving and inclusive business environment in Mokopane, independent of political influence,” he said.

He added that the chamber has reason to believe its official social media page may have been compromised. Furthermore, its name, logo and organisational details were apparently used unlawfully to recreate a fraudulent profile misrepresenting the chamber and its values.

“This misuse of our identity is both unlawful and unethical. It is deeply concerning that certain individuals or political entities would resort to such tactics to gain political advantage or discredit others. Such actions undermine not only the integrity of democratic processes but also trust within our local business community,” Modisha said.

The chamber is taking steps to investigate the matter, secure its digital platforms and ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible.

Residents are urged to verify information shared on social media before accepting it as official, report suspicious pages falsely claiming to represent the chamber, and engage directly through verified communication channels for accurate information.

“The Mokopane Business Chamber remains committed to serving the interests of the local business community with integrity, transparency and professionalism,” Modisha concluded, thanking members and the community for their continued trust and support.
