Manhunt launched after Limpopo graveyard rape

Thohoyandou police seek three men involved in armed sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman in Phiphidi Village; investigations ongoing.

LIMPOPO – The police’s family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit in Thohoyandou has launched a manhunt for three unidentified men in connection with the rape of a woman in the early hours of March 28, at the Phiphidi Village graveyard.

Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said according to reports, the victim (24) was walking with her partner towards Phiphidi Village when they encountered a group of approximately seven men near the cemetery.

Some of the suspects were armed.

Details of the attack

“The men demanded money, and upon being told there was none, the victim was forcibly dragged towards the graveyard entrance.

“She was then threatened with a knife and repeatedly raped by three suspects, while her boyfriend was held at knifepoint and stabbed.

“The ordeal continued in the graveyard, where the victim was further assaulted before the suspects fled the scene,” said Ledwaba.

Suspects still at large

He said the suspects have not been identified and are at large.

Police appeal to anyone with information that may assist in the arrest of the men to contact investigating officer Sgt Lusunzi Mashudu on 079 891 1199, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, their nearest police station, or share information on the MySAPSApp.

Police investigations are ongoing.
