DA to question Polokwane over mystery ANC budget
DA to question Polokwane council over rapid infrastructure upgrades near ANC Limpopo Conference venue and the mystery budget used.
POLOKWANE – The DA in Polokwane intends to submit formal questions to the Speaker of Council, Welhemina Modiba, to seek clarity on who authorised the mystery budget to spruce up selective areas around the Polokwane Cricket Club where the 11th ANC Limpopo Conference started last Friday.
Rapid road and streetlight upgrades raises concerns
“In mere days, the gravel road leading to the Cricket Club was upgraded to a tarred surface just in time for the event and long neglected and forgotten streetlights were swiftly repaired in streets around the venue,” DA caucus spokesperson on finance in the Polokwane Municipality, Jacques Joubert said in a media release.

Budget approval remains unclear
“These expedited upgrades raise serious concerns, as such work constitutes capital expenditure that does not appear in the current approved or adjusted budget as approved in February 2026,” Joubert stated.
Residents face unequal service delivery
He added that, while residents are forced to navigate pothole-riddled streets across the city, this “sudden and selective prioritisation” exposes a blatant disregard for fair and equitable service delivery.
DA highlights service delivery gaps
Joubert claims that the ANC remains detached from the reality of residents who do not receive basic services like reliable water supply, accessible, safe roads and functional streetlights, and that the only realistic solution for residents of Polokwane “is to vote for the only party with a clear record of strategic and planned service delivery”.
