Polokwane businessman fights unemployment through entrepreneurship
Polokwane resident builds auto repair and construction businesses to create jobs and empower youth through entrepreneurship.
POLOKWANE – Fighting unemployment and empowering youths, 28-year-old local businessman Rilwele Mukatuni is part of a growing number of young people choosing to build a better future through entrepreneurship and self-development.
Mukatuni said he understands the importance of creating opportunities, rather than waiting for them.
“It is not just about employment, but about gaining knowledge, developing skills and sharing growth with others,” he said.
He told Polokwane Observer that his journey into business was driven by a desire to achieve more, which led him to establish an auto repair shop in 2022.
He believes entrepreneurship offers a path to independence while also contributing to both personal and community development.
“Through this, I am able to build something meaningful that goes beyond just making money, but also contributes to uplifting others,” he said, adding that his educational background played a key role in preparing him for the challenges of running a business.
Like many young entrepreneurs, Mukatuni has faced obstacles along the way but remains determined. One of his main challenges is inconsistent client payments, which affects cash flow.
“I sometimes get clients who do not pay on time, and some do not pay at all,” he said.
Driven by a passion for job creation, Mukatuni has expanded his vision by launching a construction wing to the business too.
Through this venture, he wants to create jobs for young people. He says he believes that young people can change their lives by choosing business over negative influences.
“Instead of spending time on the streets, he encourages youth to focus on building a future for themselves.”
This mindset, he said, keeps him motivated even during difficult times. Looking ahead, Mukatuni hopes to grow his businesses into large enterprise that can create even more employment opportunities.
