High-speed chase ends in shootout at Musina border
A R700 000 Toyota Land Cruiser was recovered in Musina after suspects opened fire on police during a border chase and escaped across into Zimbabwe.
LIMPOPO – Policeand SANDF border officials stationed at Musina recovered a stolen vehicle following a high-speed chase and shootout involving suspects who fled across the border at around 09:00 on Friday.
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said officers received an alert from a tracking company regarding a stolen vehicle, reported under the Krugersdorp policing area in March.
High-speed chase towards border river
The vehicle was reportedly travelling at high speed towards the river on the western side of the border policing area in Musina.
“Police initiated a pursuit. The vehicle proceeded in the direction of SANDF members who had been alerted about the approaching vehicle.
Shootout as suspects open fire
“Upon attempts to stop the vehicle, the occupants opened fire on officers.
“A shootout ensued during which the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, crossing the river into neighbouring Zimbabwe.
“While fleeing, the suspects continued firing shots at law enforcement officers,” Ledwaba confirmed.
Croos-border alert activated
He said Zimbabwean authorities were notified, and a search was conducted on their side of the border.
The suspects had, however, not been located.
Vehicle recovered and seized

The stolen vehicle, a grey Toyota Land Cruiser, was successfully recovered and seized.
The estimated value of the vehicle is R700 000.
Police investigations are ongoing.
