N1 closed near Polokwane following major crash

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed a full road closure on the N1 near Polokwane after a serious head-on collision involving two vehicles.

Emergency services are currently on the scene, and authorities are still working to confirm full details of the incident.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area and make use of designated alternative routes.

Alternative routes: Use R101 via Mokopane

For motorists travelling from Polokwane towards Pretoria/Johannesburg (N1 South):

  • Divert at Polokwane
  • Use the R101 via Mokopane
  • Rejoin the N1 South after Mokopane

For motorists travelling from Pretoria/Johannesburg towards Polokwane (N1 North):

  • Take the Mokopane off-ramp
  • Join the R101 through Mokopane
  • Continue towards Polokwane

The R101 is currently carrying all diverted N1 traffic, resulting in heavy congestion, significant delays through Mokopane, as well as increased travel times.
