BMA commissioner to visit Beitbridge after border breach concerns

After taxis and buses were intercepted with undocumented foreigners, the BMA commissioner heads to Beitbridge for site inspections and stakeholder meetings.

LIMPOPO – The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato, will conduct an operational visit to the Beitbridge Port of Entry in Musina on Thursday to address rising concerns over border breaches and the illegal movement of people.

This intervention follows the interception of several minibus taxis and buses transporting undocumented foreign nationals during inland operations.

The Commissioner will convene an emergency meeting with key law enforcement and border management stakeholders, including:

  • South African National Defence Force (SANDF)
  • South African Revenue Service (SARS)

Engagement with transport operators

A dedicated session will be held with bus and taxi operators active in the Beitbridge area. The focus will be on streamlining operations, tightening compliance measures, and ensuring lawful movement of people and goods across the border.

Site inspection of vulnerable areas

Commissioner Masiapato will conduct an on-site inspection of identified high-risk and vulnerable zones around Beitbridge to assess physical infrastructure and operational gaps.
