Mixed bag at the pumps: Petrol up, diesel down from Wednesday
Depending on what you drive, June brings mixed news at the pumps as petrol rises, while diesel users enjoy a drop.

POLOKWANE – From Wednesday, 3 June, Polokwane motorists will pay R1.43 more per litre for petrol, while diesel users will see significant relief at the pumps.
The official June fuel prices, confirmed by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, bring mixed news for local drivers. Inland 93 petrol will rise from R26.52 to R27.95 per litre, while 95 petrol increases from R26.63 to R28.06 .
Diesel users, however, will benefit from substantial decreases. The wholesale price of diesel 0.05% will drop by R3.25 per litre, while diesel 0.005% falls by R2.62 per litre
Why the increase?
The price movements are the result of two opposing forces.
On one hand, international oil prices have softened, which would normally lead to lower fuel costs. On the other hand, the government has begun rolling back the emergency fuel levy relief that was introduced to cushion consumers from previous price shocks.
From June, the temporary R3.00 per litre relief on the General Fuel Levy has been cut in half. This adds R1.50 back to the price of every litre of petrol.
For diesel, the international price drop was significant enough to absorb the levy restoration and still deliver a net decrease for consumers.
What this means for motorists
For a motorist driving a standard 45-litre petrol car, the increase adds roughly R64 to each fill-up compared to May.
For farmers, logistics companies, and households that rely on diesel vehicles, the reduction offers meaningful relief. A 100-litre diesel fill-up will now cost around R325 less than last month.
| Fuel | Price |
| 93 Petrol | R27.95 |
| 95 Petrol | R28.06 |
| Diesel 0.05% | R27.92 |
Illuminating paraffin and LPGas also drop
There is some good news for households using paraffin for heating and lighting. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will drop by R5.96 per litre, while the Single Maximum National Retail Price will decrease by R7.95 per litre .
LPGas users will also see a small reduction, with the maximum retail price declining by R0.17 per kilogram nationally
