Limpopo traffic department issues payment warning to motorists

Some motorists are still being flagged during road checks despite having made payment, prompting clarification from authorities.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is reminding motorists with outstanding traffic infringement fines to ensure that payments made via EFT or ATM are correctly referenced.

The department says that following the rollout of Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, some motorists are being flagged during road checks despite having made payment. This is often due to incorrect reference details being used, resulting in payments not being properly allocated on the National Traffic Contravention Management System, where the fines continue to reflect as “outstanding”.

Use summons number as reference

Motorists are advised to use the summons number printed at the top right-hand corner of the traffic fine notice as the correct reference when making payments.

The department has cautioned motorists not to use vehicle registration numbers, names or surnames as payment references.

Incorrect references may delay processing

Payments made without the correct reference, or with missing details, may be treated as unpaid. This could result in the infringement remaining active on the system and may lead to enforcement action, including possible vehicle impoundment.

Steps to resolve incorrect payments

Motorists who have already made payments using incorrect reference details are advised to visit their nearest provincial traffic station with proof of payment, such as a bank statement or receipt, as well as the original traffic infringement notice.

The department says this will assist in allocating payments correctly, updating records, and preventing unnecessary enforcement action.

Public urged to comply

Motorists are encouraged to ensure correct payment procedures are followed to avoid administrative delays and enforcement action.
