10 ANC members injured in Kutama bakkie crash

Ten ANC members were injured, with four still in hospital, after their bakkie overturned in a collision at Madodonga in the Kutama area.

LIMPOPO – What was meant to be a routine journey home for ANC members from Ward 24 in the Makhado Municipality ended in a trip to hospital after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned following a collision with a sedan at Madodonga in the Kutama area last Saturday.

Ten members of the ANC Tshenuwani Farisani branch were travelling back to Muduluni after attending a meeting at Madabani when the crash occurred.

According to reports, the driver of the bakkie lost control after an oncoming vehicle is said to have crossed into its path. The impact caused the bakkie to overturn.

All 10 injured, four still in hospital

All 10 occupants sustained injuries and were taken to Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital for treatment. Six were later discharged after receiving medical care, while four remained in hospital.

One of the injured members, Pontso Maleka, who was discharged with minor injuries, said the incident happened within seconds.

“There was really nothing the driver could have done to avoid the incident. A sedan that was crossing the road suddenly came into our path. We all shouted, and the bakkie overturned,” she recalled.

Branch chairperson and Ward 24 councillor, Muhali Makwala, said they had been in contact with the affected families and wished those who were still in hospital a speedy recovery. He also thanked community members and emergency responders for the assistance they provided at the scene.

ANC Vhembe grateful no lives were lost

ANC Vhembe regional spokesperson Frank Tshililo said they were saddened by the crash but grateful that no lives were lost.

“We immediately visited the injured members to assess the situation. We remain in contact with the affected families and wish all the victims a speedy recovery,” Tshililo said.

At the time of publication, four of the injured ANC members were still receiving treatment in hospital.
