Polokwane dentist debunks veneer myths
Smile On Dental founder Dr Machaba-Selatole says veneers are about restoring confidence and dignity, not just a celebrity trend.
POLOKWANE – The founder and principal dentist of Smile On Dental and Aesthetic Studio, with practices in Limpopo and Gauteng, says misinformation around dental care continues to grow, often resulting in delayed treatment and preventable oral health complications.
Among the topics closest to her heart is the misconception that veneers are simply a cosmetic luxury associated with celebrities and social media personalities.

‘Not just a trend’
“Many people see veneers as something done purely for appearance, but the reality is often far more complex. In some communities, environmental factors such as naturally occurring high fluoride levels in drinking water have caused significant tooth discolouration and dental fluorosis.
“For some patients, restorative treatments are about confidence, dignity and quality of life rather than following a trend,” says Dr Machaba-Selatole.
