What Sassa’s August 7 payment date means for you
Beneficiaries paid outside the usual three-day cycle this month shouldn't be alarmed – here's what it means and what to do next.
POLOKWANE – The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the payment dates for August, with most beneficiaries paid over three days and a small group paid on a separate fourth date.
Beneficiaries who don’t get paid on their usual date this August shouldn’t panic as it likely means their grant has been flagged for a review.
August payment dates confirmed
The dates are:
- August 4 – Older Persons Grants
- August 5 – Disability Grants
- August 6 – Children’s Grants
- August 7 – Beneficiaries who need to complete a grant review or eLife Certification
If you are paid on August 7 instead of your usual date, it means Sassa has flagged your grant for a review. Sassa spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said beneficiaries in this group would already have received an SMS from the agency explaining why.
What happens if you don’t act
Anyone paid on the fourth date must visit their nearest Sassa office to complete the review. If they don’t, their grant could be suspended the following month, and eventually cancelled if the issue isn’t sorted out.
Letsatsi also urged beneficiaries to update their contact details and address with Sassa, since the agency uses whatever information that was given when the grant was first applied for. If those details are outdated, important messages may not reach the right person.
Sassa said these reviews help confirm that people still qualify for their grants, and help prevent money being paid to people who are deceased or no longer eligible.
Grant amounts and collecting your payment
Since April, most permanent grants have increased. The Older Persons and Disability grants are now paid at R2 400 a month, while the Child Support Grant increased to R580. The SRD R370 grant remains unchanged.
Once a grant is paid, beneficiaries don’t have to withdraw it immediately. The money stays available and can be collected later from ATMs or retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Checkers.
Beware of fake grant information online
Sassa has also warned the public about a fake video circulating on social media, claiming grant amounts will rise sharply from January 2027, including an old age pension of R5 000 and a child support grant of R3 000. Sassa says the video did not come from the agency and the figures in it are false.
Beneficiaries are urged to verify any grant-related information through Sassa’s official platforms, including its toll-free helpline on 0800 60 10 11, before acting on it or sharing it further.
