Love My Mokopane marks Mandela Day with clean-up
Love My Mokopane says the weekend proved that hope becomes action when a community unites around a shared vision.
MOKOPANE – Love My Mokopane marked the Mandela Day weekend with two impactful community projects that brought together volunteers, local government, businesses and partner organisations in a shared effort to improve public spaces in town.
Giving Fourie Street grounds new life
The Mandela Day started on July 17, where the Love My Mokopane team joined hands with Valterra Platinum Mine, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mokopane Destiny Academy and the Mogalakwena Local Municipality for a joint community initiative at the old sports grounds in Fourie Street.
Volunteers participated in clean-up and restoration activities aimed at revitalising the area to become a safe place where growth and development can take place.
The love continues at the train station
On July 18, the movement continued at the Mokopane Train Station, where residents gathered for the monthly Love My Mokopane mission.
Activities included cleaning the station and surrounding areas, removing litter and overgrown vegetation, planting flowers in station pots, and beginning preparations for a new garden in the large circle at the station entrance.
Hands together, hearts in it
The weekend highlighted the power of collaboration, with families, children, businesses and volunteers working side by side to create visible change.
Love My Mokopane expressed gratitude to all partners, sponsors and locals who contributed their time, resources and energy.
According to the organisation, the Mandela Day weekend showed that hope becomes action when a community unites with a shared vision of building a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Mokopane.
