LIMPOPO – Gr 10 learner Reneiloe Sefole from Hoërskool Louis Trichardt is asking the community to help make her dream of playing netball in the United Kingdom (UK) a reality.

Sefole has been selected to represent Jens Netball on an international tour to the UK, where she will compete against overseas teams, train under experienced coaches and gain valuable international playing experience.

Before she can board the plane, however, she needs financial support to cover the costs of the trip.

Shocked by her selection

She says she was shocked when she heard she had been selected, as she had been injured during the trials and felt she had not played her best.

“When I realised I had been selected, I was incredibly happy and grateful,” she said.

A family passion for the sport

Sefole has been playing netball since Gr 1, after being inspired by her mother and sister, who were both talented players.

She now plays as a goal shooter and goal keeper and hopes to grow her career in the sport.

Fundraising proving a challenge

Although she has been working hard to raise the money needed, it has been one of her biggest challenges. She says her family and relatives have been doing everything they can to help, but she still needs support from the wider community.

She is raising money to cover her travel and tour expenses, and needs to reach her goal of R70 000 by August.

She is appealing to individuals, businesses and anyone willing to contribute towards her goal.

“Any support, big or small, brings me one step closer to the UK. You wouldn’t just be helping me travel, you would be investing in a young athlete’s future. Thank you to everyone who believes in me and supports my dream,” she said.

Eyes on the future

Sefole believes the opportunity will not only improve her netball skills but also shape her future. She hopes to return from the UK with new knowledge, greater confidence and unforgettable international experience.
