Man dies after mob attack in Thohoyandou
A 27-year-old man has died after being assaulted in a mob justice incident in Thohoyandou. Police have launched a murder investigation.
LIMPOPO – Police in Thohoyandou have launched a murder investigation after a 27-year-old man died from injuries he allegedly sustained during a mob justice incident at Dovheni village in the Vhembe District.
According to Limpopo police, officers responded to reports of the incident on Sunday, July 26. On arrival, they found the injured man, who was taken to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
Victim linked to burglary case
Police said the man had been linked to a burglary case in the area and was admitted to hospital under police guard. He was later transferred to another hospital for further medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. He had sustained an open wound to his upper body.
Manhunt launched
A murder case has been opened, and police have launched a manhunt for those allegedly involved in the assault.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified, while a post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death.
