POLOKWANE – Neighbours woke up in the early hours of Tuesday when a gunshot rang out in the peaceful suburb of Bendor Park, following a commotion when a man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance to be treated for a gunshot wound to his upper thigh.
Members of the Bendor/Sterpark Community Policing Forum and Neighbour Watch swiftly responded to the scene and assisted the victim to contain bleeding and called for an ambulance.
Victim confirms five men broke down door
The victim of the incident, Jason Govender, spoke to Review Online and confirmed that five men broke down the door of the house where he lives with his wife and two other ladies in the apartment around 4:00 AM.
“I tried to herd them off and was shot in my upper thigh while the ladies escaped to our neighbours’ premises. The assailants then took off,” Govender said.
Recovering well
Govender confirmed on Wednesday morning that he was released from hospital and is recovering well.
“Luckily the bullet did not hit any bones,” he said.
Review Online is awaiting comment from police regarding the incident.
