POLOKWANE – The Aloes Lifestyle Estate has proudly announced the successful commissioning of its state-of-the-art municipal water backup supply network, a R4.5m developer-funded infrastructure investment designed to provide residents with uninterrupted water supply during municipal interruptions while strengthening the broader municipal reticulation network.

The team of various organisations and businesses got together for a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 21 at The Aloes Lifestyle Estate, led by Paul Altenroxel from Decacel and the ribbon was cut by John Michele from Pan East.

The project reflects Decacel Developers’ long-term vision of creating sustainable, resilient infrastructure that enhances quality of life for residents while supporting Polokwane’s future growth.

Developer carried the unbudgeted costs

Recognising water security as a key priority early in the estate’s development, Decacel identified the need for a dedicated municipal backup system and took responsibility for planning, funding and implementing the infrastructure.

The concept was developed in close collaboration with VBL Consulting Engineers and the Polokwane Municipality.

The original system was conceived as a staged development with dual municipal connections, emergency storage and booster pumping capability. The developer absorbed significant unbudgeted costs to ensure the system was established.

Instead of requiring each of the estate’s approximately 680 homes to install individual 5 000-litre storage tanks — representing over 3.4 million litres of fragmented private storage — the developer pursued a more efficient and environmentally responsible approach.

A smaller footprint than 680 separate tanks

The centralised municipal backup system has a bulk storage capacity of approximately 1.35 million litres. This preserves the estate’s architectural integrity, reduces unnecessary capital expenditure for homeowners, simplifies maintenance, and ensures a coordinated, professionally managed water security system. The result is significantly improved water security for residents, ensuring homes remain supplied during periods of municipal interruption.

This reliability also strengthens homeowner confidence, increases the estate’s appeal to buyers and investors, and contributes positively to long-term property values.
