LIMPOPO – Police in Villa Nora are appealing to the public to help identify the rightful owner of 20 goats recovered during a multidisciplinary operation in the Marken policing area on Monday (August 3).

Vehicle intercepted acting on tip-off

The operation was carried out by the Villa Nora Detectives, Villa Nora Crime Prevention Unit, Lephalale Security Police and Lephalale Crime Intelligence as part of ongoing efforts to combat stock theft in the area.

Acting on information received, the multidisciplinary team proceeded to Marken, where they intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting stolen livestock. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the 20 goats, which have since been placed in police custody pending confirmation of ownership.

The docket has been transferred to the Modimolle Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit for further investigation.

Commissioner praises vigilance of members

Provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended the members involved in the operation and reiterated the importance of community cooperation in fighting stock theft.

“Stock theft continues to have a devastating impact on farming communities and emerging livestock owners. We commend the members whose vigilance led to the recovery of these animals and urge anyone who may have information regarding their ownership to come forward. Working together with our communities remains critical in preventing and combating stock theft,” said Scheepers.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have lost goats matching the recovered livestock, or who has information that may assist in identifying the lawful owner, to contact Detective Sergeant Arnold Maledi on 082 414 1610, their nearest police station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or the MySAPS App.
