Sonja and Tjokker teach life lessons in Polokwane
Tjokker had Noordskool learners in stitches, swapping 'Incy Wincy Spider' for a Baha Men classic, 'Who Let the Dogs Out'.
POLOKWANE – The foundation phase learners at Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord had a special treat on July 30 when Sonja and her special furry friend Tjokker (the mascot) paid a visit to the school.
The Gr 1-3 learners gathered in the school hall for a fun and educational show filled with music, laughter and important life lessons. All the foundation phase teachers were also present in the hall.
Lessons wrapped in laughter
Among other educational acts they performed on stage, ‘Sonja and Tjokker’ taught learners about:
• Sharing is caring.
• Throwing litter in the bin.
• Brushing their teeth daily.
• Eating healthy food and limiting junk food.
• Being patient.
• Bullying – this is where the learners were reminded that if someone bullies them, they must tell their teachers and parents.
The playful duo used songs, stories and comedy to drive the messages home, keeping the young audience engaged from start to finish.
Who let the dogs out?
The highlight of the show came when Tjokker refused to sing the classic ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ rhyme song, instead, the mascot insisted on performing ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ by Baha Men – after all, he is a dog.
The learners sang and danced along in excitement.
The learners loved the surprise, and the show ended with plenty of giggles and applause.
A memento to remember the day
Noordskool teachers thanked Sonja and Tjokker for a morning that combined fun with valuable lessons the foundation phase learners will carry with them.
All learners were given a ‘Sonja en Tjokker’ badge as a token of appreciation and to show their parents after school, that they attended the event.
