LIMPOPO – Motorists are urged to expect heavy congestion on the N1 northbound from Gauteng into Limpopo this weekend, with salary payments on August 15 expected to drive up shopping and travel activity across the province.

Increased volumes are also expected on the N11, R71, R81, R524 and R37, according to Limpopo traffic authorities.

Plan ahead

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and to be patient at tollgates, where congestion is expected.

Check your vehicle first

Drivers should carry out a pre-trip inspection before setting off, checking that tyres, lights, brakes and licences are all in order.

No leniency for speeding or drunk driving

Traffic authorities said there would be zero tolerance for speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol, with arrests to be made where necessary.
