POLOKWANE – Ten Saps employees were injured when the minibus transporting them was involved in a head-on collision while they were returning from winter sporting activities in Polokwane.

Previous reports from the Limpopo Department of Transport had indicated that 12 members were injured, but police reports confirm ten.

Driver killed in collision

The crash occurred when a sedan allegedly veered out of its lane and collided with the minibus carrying the Saps members from various stations and units in the Waterberg District.

The driver of the sedan died in the collision and remains unidentified.

Police commissioner visits injured members

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers visited the crash scene on Friday, August 28, and later visited the injured members while they were receiving medical treatment.

Scheepers expressed relief at seeing the survivors receiving care and wished them a speedy recovery.

“I wish you well in your journey of recovery and hope to meet you next year during our winter sporting activities. We remain hopeful that after your full recovery, you will continue to serve this organisation and help reset the agenda,” said Scheepers.

The condition of the injured members was not provided.
