4 dead, 12 injured in 2 N1 crashes near Polokwane
Four people have died and 12 others injured in two separate crashes on the N1 near Polokwane on Friday evening.
POLOKWANE – Four people have died and 12 others injured in two separate crashes on the N1 on Friday evening, with one road still partially closed as emergency crews attend to the scenes.
Crash 1: SAPS minibus collision near Polokwane
According to the Department of Transport, the first incident involved a sedan travelling northbound that veered out of its lane and collided with a SAPS minibus near the Astron Filling Station outside Polokwane at approximately 7:00 PM.
The impact caused the sedan to catch fire.
The driver of the sedan, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene. Twelve Saps members sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Crash 2: Multi-vehicle collision near Modimolle Mountain
In a separate incident on the N1 near Modimolle Mountain, three vehicles were involved in a collision. Three fatalities were reported.
Four people sustained slight injuries, while one person sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.
Road closures and diversions
The Department of Transport has confirmed the following road closures:

Law enforcement officials, traffic officers, police and emergency response teams are currently at the scenes managing the situation.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, remain patient and avoid the affected sections of the N1 until further notice.
