‘Gagash’ and wife now face 43 charges in estate fraud case
Peter 'Gagash' Nonyane and his wife Charlotte Tibana now face 43 charges for allegedly stealing over R4 million from deceased estates.
POLOKWANE – The Tshwane Metro Police officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibana, are now facing 43 charges after the state added six more counts of money laundering in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
The couple, who were arrested in August, are accused of stealing more than R4m from the deceased estate accounts of five families – the Masha, Mathabatha, Maswanganyi, Moetji and Kobe families.
Latest charges linked to Kobe estate
State prosecutor Martin Molokwane told the court the latest charges relate to R1 029 000 allegedly transferred from the Kobe family estate account to an account registered in the name of Jabulani Maluleke.
“Count 38 was committed on August 8, count 39 was committed on July 17, 2026, count 40 was committed on July 8, count 41 involves an amount of R76 000 and was committed on July 10, 2026. The total proceeds of illegal activities alleged by the state are R1 029 000,” Molokwane said.

What the state alleges
The state alleges the accounts were under Tibana’s stewardship as an estate attorney. Funds were allegedly moved for personal benefit, including:
- The purchase of a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 valued at about R1.65m from a Pretoria dealership
- Other luxury vehicles
- Properties
- Transfers into a stokvel account belonging to Nonyane
Case grows rapidly
The case has grown rapidly since the couple’s arrest. Nonyane, 36, who is also a social media personality, was arrested in Pretoria on August 14 on a warrant by the Limpopo Hawks. Tibana, 33, handed herself over on August 17.
They initially faced 14 counts, which increased to 35 last week after the Kobe family laid a complaint.
One estate almost wiped out
Hawks investigating officer Colonel Daniel Makuwa testified that one estate has been almost wiped out, with only R5 000 left remaining.
State opposes bail
The state is opposing bail, arguing that the couple knows the witnesses, attempted to interfere with investigations, and could be at risk from angry family members.
Their bail hearing continues today, Wednesday. They have not been convicted and remain in custody.
