POLOKWANE – An 11-year-old learner from Flora Park Comprehensive Primary School in Polokwane, Vhudzumbamo Arehone Naomi Mabilu, is set to represent Limpopo at the South African National Gymnastics Championships in the Western Cape.

Naomi, who comes from Ha-Makhuvha village near Matatshe, achieved an important milestone in her young sporting career.

Her achievement is a source of pride for her family, who hope her journey will inspire other young people in Limpopo to participate in sport.

National championships in September

She qualified for the Limpopo gymnastics team, which will compete at the national championships in the Western Cape from September 24 to 29.

She currently trains at Zanis Gymnastics Academy in Polokwane under the guidance of her coach.

A passion discovered at seven

Naomi discovered her passion for gymnastics at the age of seven. Since then, she has remained committed to the sport, developing her skills through hard work, discipline and dedication.

She has also been selected to join a gymnastics team that will travel to Centurion on August 6.

Speaking about her journey, Naomi said her love for gymnastics began at primary school and was nurtured through her participation in the sport.

“My love for gymnastics began in primary school and laid the foundation for my skills and commitment to the sport,” she said.

Naomi said her dream is to represent Limpopo at the national championships and continue developing her skills in the sport.

An interest that grew into a passion

Her father, Dr Reuben Mabilu, said the family was extremely proud of Naomi’s commitment and progress since taking up gymnastics.

“What began as an interest has grown into a passion. She has worked extremely hard to reach this level, and qualifying to represent Limpopo at the national championships is a very special achievement for her and our family,” he said.
