LIMPOPO – One employee of the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure has died and 12 others have been injured in a vehicle collision at the D’Nyala Nature Reserve outside Lephalale.

The incident happened on Wednesday.

Returning from Heritage Day celebration

According to departmental spokesperson Emmanuel Mongwe, the employees were returning from a departmental Heritage Day celebration when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in the crash.

“Sadly, one employee lost her life in the tragic incident,” he said.

MEC extends condolences

MEC Tonny Rachoene has extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased employee and wished the injured employees a speedy and full recovery.

The department confirmed that five of the injured employees are receiving medical care and support from Ellisras and Polokwane hospitals and that it remains in close contact with the affected employees and their families.

“May the departed employee’s soul rest in peace,” Rachoene said.

Details still emerging

The department has not yet released the identity of the deceased employee or details on the cause of the crash.
