Maths teacher Siphilisiwe prefers numbers over words

Siphilisiwe Kakumbo shared that she loves her job and thrives on the knowledge that she has contributed towards the foundation of many former learner's success story.

POLOKWANE – Siphilisiwe Kakumbo is an Eagle’s Nest Christian School teacher who wears many hats.

Kakumbo has been at Eagle’s Nest since 2008 and is currently the Gr 5 mathematics teacher. She shared that mathematics is her subject of choice because she prefers numbers over words.

She started her teaching career at the age of 21 years with her newly acquired teaching diploma.

She explained that the reason she chose to become a teacher was the lack of exposure to other professions.

“Growing up, everyone was either a teacher or nurse and I opted for the former. I only realised that it was my calling when I was already working as a teacher,” she said.

Kakumbo shared that she loves her job and thrives on the knowledge that she has contributed towards the foundation of many former learner’s success story.

She added that although teaching is not easy, it is by the grace of God that she is able to wake up every day and look forward to another day of sharing her knowledge with her learners.

Kakumbo is not just a teacher, she is a student working towards her honours in education and a fashion designer in her free time.

She shared that she loves designing clothes and making people look good, hence it is something she does on the side.

She expressed that it is not an easy task balancing all these hats that she wears, but God is at the helm of everything she does.

She stated that she has been a teacher for so long and still gets fulfilment from her job because of the satisfaction she gets from teacher and plans to continue to work hard for many more years to come.
