Platinum 4 Eco Schools award for PEPPS Polokwane

POLOKWANE – PEPPS Polokwane was awarded a Platinum 4 award in the 2023 Wessa Eco Schools Project with PEPPS Mokopane and PEPPS Ga-Ledwaba gaining their Green Flag Award.
The prize-giving ceremony was recently held at Bolivia Lodge, with the ceremony giving recognition to the schools participating in the Eco-Schools programme, for their outstanding efforts in environmental sustainability and education. It’s a celebration of the inspirational efforts of schools that work hard towards eco consciousness and sustainability.
The Eco-Schools programme is an international initiative that empowers learners to take action on environmental issues and promotes sustainable practices within schools and their surrounding communities.
Schools work on various environmental projects, such as waste reduction, energy conservation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education.
The programme is aimed at creating awareness and action in schools and their surrounding communities as well as supporting Education for Sustainable Development in the national curriculum.
Some of the initiatives that PEPPS runs in their awareness around environmental sustainability include providing basic eco news and information to learners. In 2023, they started a project to become more waterwise in their gardening choices.
Last year, their annual tree planting ceremony happened in both the college and the preparatory school as a tree represents growth and commitment to clean, breathable air.
The school has also installed solar lights for security to conserve electricity. The aim is to replace all traditional safety lights with solar powered safety lights within the next year or two.
PEPPS executive head, Amanda Korff expressed a special thanks to Ruan van Zyl for his dedicated collaboration with the Eco Champions across all the PEPPS campuses to complete their eco portfolio.
PEPPS Polokwane is now working towards diamond status this year.
