Locals let the cat out of the bag on what they carry in their handbags

POLOKWANE – Most women never leave the house without their handbags, which usually store a handful of items.

Review asked local women what they kept in their handbags and if they preferred big or small bags.

Bianca Adlem said she preferred big bags. “I call them shop lifting bags because I can fit everything I need in my bag, which is my wallet, lip gloss and definitely my perfume. I never go anywhere without my perfume. There are also a lot of till slips in my bag that I never throw away.”

Rose Lopes said: “I prefer small sling bags that I can hang around my neck so that I can still be able to use both my hands. I do not like big bags anymore because I always struggled to find things inside the bag. Inside my bag is my wallet, sunglasses, keys, hand sanitiser, perfume, tissues, Gaviscon for heart burn, which can attack anytime, anywhere, gum and my hair clips”.

Anri Matthee said she also preferred big, stylish handbags. “I actually collect handbags. The one I am currently using I bought in India.

I have my wallet, phones, keys, make-up, hair pins, tissues, vitamins and those little restaurant sweets that you get in your bill folder, in my bag.”

Karen Adlem said her handbag was her “survival kit”. “I can survive any place, anywhere with just my handbag. As small as it is, it has everything I need. I always have a notebook and a pen, tissues, hand wipes, a tazer for safety, perfume, my bowling socks and I have a little chemist of my own in my handbag, which includes headache tablets, tummy tablets and nausea tablets.

I also have a little secret camera that my son gave me to use if ever I am in a dodgy situation and I can always record the situation and take pictures.”

Khadija Motala said: “I like small bags as they limit you and you cannot fill it up and it does not get heavy. I have my sunblock, keys, wallet and my Wakaberry card because you never know if you will end up at the mall. I also have chocolate in my bag”.
