The Limpopo Impalas cricket team played two international T20 friendly warm-up matches against Uganda on Satur-day.
The Impalas might have lost both matches, but certainly gained some valuable experience.
In the first match, the Impalas lost the toss and Uganda selected to bowl first.
They restricted the Impalas to 92/9 in their allocated overs. Batsman Jaco Smit stood out by scoring 34 runs off 35 balls.
Uganda bowler, Henry Senyodo had a field day and he took 5/19 in four overs. It took Uganda only 11.1 overs to reach the required number of runs to win the game.
Mpho Selowa was Uganda’s top scorer with his 36 runs off 24 balls.
Hoërskool Pietersburg’s star bowler, Landré Coetsee, who recently took ten wickets in a high schools’ league match against Standford Lake College, took 3/15 in three overs.
In the second match on Saturday afternoon, both Uganda and Impala made some changes to their teams. Uganda won the toss again and decided to send the Impalas first in to bat again.
This time around the Impalas made a more respectable target of 136/3 for the Uganda team to reach. Impalas’ Andrew Galloway and Francois Louw helped their side to reach 136 runs. Galloway scored a stunning half century, 52 runs off just 26 balls and Louw impressed with his 40 runs from 30 deliveries.
The Impalas were determined to restrict the Ugandan visitors, but to no avail. Uganda reached the required target in 17,1 overs. Davis Karashani, Uganda’s captain, steered his team to a five-wicket-win with his 48 runs off 28 balls.
Jacques Kruger did an excellent job with the ball with his bowling figures of 3/14 in four overs for the Impalas.
Former Impalas coach, Johan Rudolph and dad of Protea cricketer, Jacques Rudolph, is now the coach of Uganda and thanked Limpopo Impala Cricket for their hospitality.
