Meyer and Baragwanath to battle it out for South African quads title
South African quad bike champion for 2012, Jurie Meyer, who is currently leading the overall championships, will be vying for overall honours in the seventh and final round of the national off-road bikes and quad bikes championships in the Ventersdorp 400 on Saturday.
POLOKWANE – South African quad bike champion for 2012, Jurie Meyer, who is currently leading the overall championships, will be vying for overall honours in the seventh and final round of the national off-road bikes and quad bikes championships in the Ventersdorp 400 on Saturday.
Meyer competes on a Yamaha Support quad bike.
The points gap between him and second place rival, Brian Baragwanath, who competes on a BB Motorsport Lonestar PEP Yamaha is not big enough for Meyer to feel safe yet.
This is certainly a tussle to look forward to as both riders have won the national championships before and will be going all out to secure a second national title.
Should these two riders fall by the wayside, there is an outside change for Yamaha rider, John Ailward, who is third on the championship ladder.
Another Polokwane rider in the Q1 class for quad bikes is André du Plessis on a BB Motorsport Yamaha.
Du Plessies experienced a disastrous start to the season and is currently seventh overall in the points standings after he fought his way up the points ladder.
Meyer’s dad, Jurie Meyer (snr) has already clinched the master quad bike class title. Another Polokwane rider aiming for a title on Saturday is Adri du Plessis on a BB Motorsport Suzuki. She will want to secure the women’s quad class crown, but first she will have to contend with her closest rival in this class, Liezel Barnard on a Barnard Vervoer Can-Am quad bike.
The Ventersdorp 400 starts at 08:00 when the bikes and quad bikes will take on two different loops (routes) of 60km each. competitors will complete their routes three times before swapping the routes, where the two and four wheeler competitors will once again complete three rounds of their new routes.
