POLOKWANE – The annual Catch 22 fishing competition, presented by the Round Table Pietersburg 22 on September 28 at the Alpha Sand dam, provided much excitement as fishermen showed off their fishing expertise.
The event is held annually and this was the fourth year it was held.
The aim is raising money for the less fortunate in and around the city.
Prizes to be won included prizes for the biggest fish, the best junior fisherman, as well as raffle prizes.
Lourens Marais took the prize for the biggest fish, which weighed 890g, with Jaco Pelser winning second prize for his fish that weighed 770g. Sam Jacobsz won third place with a fish weighing 740g.
Stephen Hall (9) took the prize for junior fisherman with a fish weighing 350g.
Some R13 000 was raised on the day and will be donated to various local charities, the names of which will be announced at a later stage.
Jan van Waveren, member of Round Table Pietersburg 22 and owner of Alpha Sand, thanked everyone for their input in making the day a huge success.
“Without the community taking part, this day and the charity would not be possible,” he said, adding that they planned to make the event even larger next year with a variety of additional activities.
