Local quad guys rake in the titles

A fourth place was enough for defending 2012 South African quad bike off-road champion, Jurie Meyer, to secure his second consecutive title on his Yamaha Support quad bike on Saturday after the final round of the national championships, the Ventersdorp 400 race.

POLOKWANE – A fourth place was enough for defending 2012 South African quad bike off-road champion, Jurie Meyer, to secure his second consecutive title on his Yamaha Support quad bike on Saturday after the final round of the national championships, the Ventersdorp 400 race.

Meyer was also the winner of the Q1 class, which is the premier division for quad bike riders. Mechanical problems caused some worries for Meyer but he nursed his quad bike to the finish line.

Meyer’s main championships rival, who also hails from Polokwane, former national champion, Brian Baragwanath on the BB Motorsport Lonestar PEP Yamaha, won the Ventersdorp 400. It was Baragwanath’s fourth victory of the season and it was the second consecutive year he managed to win the Ventersdorp 400 race.

Only if Meyer had failed to complete the race and Baragwanath still managed a win, would the latter have won the crown. Meyer and Baragwanath truly proved their worth when it comes to quad bikes.

Third place overall and second place in the Q1 class for quad bikes in this race went to another Polokwane rider, André du Plessis, on his BB Motorsport Yamaha.

Du Plessis lost his starting position due to a faulty yellow light on the starting line. He had to sort out the problem there and then and this ultimately cost him his position.

Du Plessis’ sibling Adi who races in the women’s quad bike division on the BB Motorsport Suzuki was pipped by rival, Liezel Barnard, on a Barnard Vervoer Renegade for the women’s quad bike title. She was sidelined with a broken exhaust pipe and finished behind Barnard.
