POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Oval racing track just outside the city will be the place to be for motorsport enthusiasts when the final club championship round determines the various classes’ annual champs on Saturday.

In the rookie class Roean van Breda enjoys a 50 points lead on Frans Malatji, but if the latter’s new race car is ready for racing, this situation could be reversed. Marisha Badenhorst is a mere three points behind Malatji. Dylan Bosch, the newcomer in this class, will set his sights on unsettling the front runners of the championship to end the season on a high, perhaps with a victory.

The points leader in the stockrods class is Tienie Kloppers and behind him in second place is Stanley Modiba.

Be assured that the rest of the stockrods contenders will put their feet down to try and hinder the frontrunners in this class.

The 1600 modified class championship is led by Hennie de Koker with rivals Heath Bent and Pieter Lourens surely set to put as much heat as possible on De Koker in his effort to claim the championship.

Fourth on the points ladder in this class is WF Weideman and he is not a racer to be left out of the equation.

New South African 2-litre modified champion Johnny du Randt will want to prove to his fellow Polokwane Oval racers that he is the man to beat in this final round of the club championship. But he can expect some formidable challenges from fellow two-litre modified racers Pieter Venter, his brother Rudolf, as well as Rudi van Breda and Haccum Hough. Cars have been repaired after the battlescars obtained competing in the national championship in Cape Town recently and are all ready to give the new champ an uphill battle to the checkered flag.

In the rotary class South Africa’s second best, Allas Pienaar and third best, Stephan Weideman, will prove to oval race fanatics why they are number two and three in the country.

After a major crash in a race meeting in Vereeniging, André Pienaar has repaired his car and will be ready to take the battle to South Africa’s top three rotary racers. So will Hennie Steenkamp, who has since fitted a new engine and will be quite keen to show that the new power unit will allow him to compete with the frontrunners.

South African super saloon class champ SZ Venter will want to show he is worthy of this national title and is set to compete against Piet Venter, Philip de Wet and the runner-up of the national championship, Deon Voges.

Entrance to spectators will be open from 12:00 and they can then watch racers doing their practise rounds before racing officially starts at 18:00. Entry for adults is R30 and for children R10. Polokwane Oval would like to encourage petrolheads to come out in full support. There will be ample beverages and food for sale.
