Memorial tournament to bring out the best
THE eagerly anticipated annual Pamo Memorial Soccer Tournament, popularly known as the Pamo Cup, kicks-off

THE eagerly anticipated annual Pamo Memorial Soccer Tournament, popularly known as the Pamo Cup, kicks-off on Saturday.
The final of the tournament, which is part of the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG), will be staged on New Year’s Day. According to the organisers, the affiliation in respect of the tournament closed yesterday (Tuesday).
There will be a team from Polokwane taking part in the tournament while two Gauteng-based teams will also participate.
The patron of KLG, David “Kaizer” Letsoalo, said the Pamo Cup was conceived as a way of celebrating the life of one of the most skilful and highly talented legends of football who has since passed on in 1994.
“This tournament is staged in memory of the late Lucas Masilo Maphikiro “Pamo” Magoro, who played for the mighty Lephepane Rovers in the 1980s.
We are humbled by the support that football followers have consistently shown in the past five years,” said Kaizer Letsoalo.
The head of KLG Sport, Trilly Mogoboya, said the tournament organisers expected many new teams in this year’s tournament as the Pamo Cup influence reached many new places in the country.
“There is no better way of celebrating this festive period than spending time at the Pamo Cup event,” he said.
Already loyal followers of the KLG sport events have started debates as to which teams are likely to emerge the champions of the Pamo Cup this year.
Many people do not give the defending champions, Mogoboya Junior Chiefs, any chance of retaining the coveted trophy.
Teams that are punted include Ramalema Cosmos, Manamela Naughty Boys, Real Madrid, Golden Aces, Leswika Classic, Khopho All Stars, Mokomotji Highlanders, KL Buffaloes, Mothopong and Mmaphala. However, there are surprise packages such as MM Super Stars, Mphoto and Royal Celtic in the mix as well.
Once again, the Matlou Business Centre has come on board to support the various individual prizes.
The following individual prizes will be awarded: Top goal scorer, best player, best goalkeeper and man of the match during the final games.
Organisers further said former Premier Soccer League striker, Mpho Maleka, will present the top goal scorer award, while Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro, Hlompho Kekana, will present the best player award.
