Cyclists, get ready for the Kremetart race

Munnik Farmers' Association together with the P&L Cycle Club will host the Kremetart Cycling Tournament and the Akkedis Mountain Bike Challenge at Munnik village in Modjadjiskloof

Munnik Farmers’ Association together with the P&L Cycle Club will host the Kremetart Cycling Tournament and the Akkedis Mountain Bike Challenge at Munnik village in Modjadjiskloof on March 22.

The objective of the race is to raise money for the restoration and development of Munnik village to create a wonderful historic railway village.

The race also aims to create employment and empower local communities through community projects and private enterprise.

The challenge is a qualifier for Limpopo colours, with athletes in the 35km and 70km races qualifying for Limpopo colours.

There will also be a 10km fun ride.

Registration for the races closes half an hour before the races start.

As this is a community initiative, cyclists are requested to bring whatever they are able to donate.

The following items will be welcome: tinned food, dry pasta or rice, second hand clothes and shoes, children’s toys, pens, pencils and crayons. Second hand bicycles are also needed.

Johan van Dijkorst, the race organiser says young people under the age of 16 are urged to enter the challenge.

“People under the age of 16 will compete in a half race, which is a 10km race and there will be prizes to be won.

“Last year, we had more than 450 cyclists who competed in the race and we are hoping to accommodate more this year,” he says.

According to Dijkorst, the Kremetart cycling challenge is the biggest challenge in the province.

There are four race options available:

• 70km marathon, which starts at 07:00. Entry costs R170.

• 35km half-marathon, which starts at 07:30. Entry costs R100.

• 10km fun ride, which starts at 08:00. Entry costs R60.

• 3km kiddies fun ride, which starts at 08:30. Entry costs R30.
