The Polokwane Golf club hosted the Captain's Knockout Challenge last Friday, where Willie Marx and Aart Juriaanse went against Joe Legora and Sipho Talane for the captain's trophy. Marx and Juriaanse won the challenge.
POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Golf club hosted the Captain’s Knockout Challenge last Friday, where Willie Marx and Aart Juriaanse went against Joe Legora and Sipho Talane for the captain’s trophy. Marx and Juriaanse won the challenge.
According to Goitsemang Motseki, Polokwane Golf club captain, 64 teams qualified for the challenge, while 144 golfers competed in the challenge, which was hosted as part of the Baobab Classic golf challenge.
The challenge was played in a match play format and the winners received a floating captain’s trophy and a weekend away, which was sponsored by BMW Modern Autohaus.
“I am delighted to see that golfers came out in numbers to support the tournament. The Captain’s Knockout Challenge is the pride of the club and we would like to see it grow and improve to greater heights,” said Motseki. The second round of the Baobab Classic was also played last Friday, where Brian O’Reilly and Glen Wynne were the winners with 50 points. In second place was Dirk Visagie and Hein Warmehoven with 47 points, while Edwin Mackays and Willie Opperman were in third place with 47 points on a count-out. Danie Bouwer and Martin van Onslen were in fourth place with 45 points and Thabo Shingange and Tony Plaatjies were in fifth place with 45 points on a count-out.
Prizes were awarded to Andrew Galloway for the longest drive at the seventh hole and Polokwane Mayor Freddy Greaver for the longest drive at the 12th hole.
Johan Moolman was nearest to the pin at the fourth hole, Jared Rabe was nearest to the pin at the eighth hole, Kobus Marnevick was nearest to the pin at the 11th hole, while Hendrik van der Merwe was nearest to the pin at the 16th hole.
